Ultherapy in Gangnam: why does the shot count vary between clinics?

Ultherapy in Gangnam: why does the shot count vary between clinics?

When searching for Ultherapy in Gangnam, you quickly notice that clinics quote different shot counts.

This reflects differences in required line numbers according to transducer depth, regional tissue thickness, and patient condition, rather than simply cost cutting.

Instead of comparing clinics only by shot count, it is safer to ask how many lines are placed at each depth (individual variation applies).

➊Why do Gangnam clinics quote different Ultherapy shot counts?

Ultherapy shot counts, or line counts, differ because plans account for individual variation in regional tissue thickness and target depth.

In clinical use of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in Korea, dermal thickness differs across the forehead, eye area, cheeks, and jawline; within one face, thin and thick regions can differ by around 1 mm.

Consequently, one clinic may recommend 800 full-face lines while another recommends 1200 or more.

This makes it easy to become confused about what and how much is included when comparing prices alone.

In consultation, I first explain the target depth and areas before discussing line count.

➋How do shot count and energy level differ?

Shot count, or line count, describes how broadly an area is treated, while output, or energy level, describes how much thermal energy is delivered at a point.

These are separate variables: more lines do not necessarily mean higher energy, and vice versa.

Depth is another important variable; a cartridge for superficial dermis and one reaching the fascial layer target different layers entirely.

CategorySuperficial-layer cartridgeDeep-layer (SMAS) cartridge
Target depthPrimarily superficial dermisDown to the deeper SMAS layer
Suitable areasThin regions such as around the eyes and mouthAreas with pronounced sagging such as cheeks and jawline
Perceived painRelatively mildOften perceived as stronger

“Even in the same area, the required cartridge and line count change depending on whether the superficial or deep layer is targeted.”

➌What to check when choosing an Ultherapy clinic in Gangnam

In a region with many clinics, such as Gangnam, it is easy to compare only shot counts on price lists. In practice, depth planning and the clinician's ability to reach that depth accurately influence results.

Reports suggest that checking the target layer on real-time ultrasound, such as Ultherapy PRIME's visualization, improves accuracy of target contact compared with relying on feel without imaging.

I therefore recommend checking the following when choosing a clinic.

Ask not only about the total line count, but how many lines are assigned to each depth and area, and whether the clinician uses visualization to check during treatment.

Ultherapy in Gangnam: Key points
  • ✓ Lines by depth: Is the plan tailored to each area?
  • ✓ Visualization: Is the screen checked during delivery?
  • ✓ Clinician skill: Does the clinician personally plan and perform treatment?

➍More shots do not necessarily mean more effect

Line count and effect are not simply proportional.

More lines than necessary may crowd thermal coagulation points and increase pain and swelling. Conversely, too few lines for the degree of sagging may not deliver the expected improvement in firmness.

Studies have also reported cases in which patients perceived greater improvement than clinicians assessed.

However, some participants in the same research were judged unchanged or worse, highlighting definite individual variation in effects.

➎Are Ultherapy side effects related to output and shot count?

Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, and pain during treatment are most common; most settle naturally within several days.

These reactions may be more pronounced when output is too high or lines overlap excessively in the same area.

Very rare cases of blisters, skin ulcers, and temporary nerve-related reactions have also been reported.

Risk is understood to increase when energy is delivered superficially near bone or when depth is set inappropriately, making real-time confirmation of the target layer important.

➏When I recommend more lines, and when I recommend localized treatment

I recommend full-face treatment with a sufficient line count for moderate or greater laxity extending to the jawline and neck.

In such cases, I find that addressing both superficial and deep layers tends to produce clearer perceived improvement.

Conversely, for concerns limited to fine lines around the eyes or mouth, or for people with higher body mass and strong skin tension that may limit effects, I believe it is more honest to discuss localized treatment or other approaches rather than force a higher line count.

I acknowledge that more lines can benefit clinic revenue. Nevertheless, my principle is to plan only what is needed after assessing both sagging and tissue thickness.

ConditionRecommended approach
Laxity extending to the jawline and neckAdequate lines addressing superficial and deep layers together
Localized fine lines around the eyes or mouthLocalized treatment of the necessary areas
Strong skin tension that may limit effectsDiscuss additional approaches rather than merely increasing line count

“Line count should reflect sagging and tissue thickness, not the size of the sale.”

QFrequently asked questions

Are more Ultherapy shots always better?

No.

Line count should match the degree of sagging and target depth; increasing it does not produce a proportionally greater effect.

Does a clinic offering fewer shots provide a budget treatment?

Not necessarily.

Fewer lines may naturally be needed when only localized superficial areas are treated.

Can the same 800 lines produce different results at different clinics?

Yes, they can.

Perceived results are reported to differ with depth allocation and the clinician's accuracy.

Is lowering the output safer?

It reduces pain, but may form insufficient thermal coagulation points and fall short of the expected effect.

How is Ultherapy in Gangnam planned?

After examining sagging and tissue thickness, we plan depth and line count by area and perform treatment.

Shot count and output are selected according to the condition after consultation (individual variation applies).

Ultherapy is not about meeting a shot quota, but accurately delivering the necessary amount of energy at the necessary depth.

Ultimately, depth planning and clinician accuracy matter more than total shot count when choosing Ultherapy in Gangnam.

If you would like a plan suited to your face, I recommend checking the depth and line count for each area during consultation.
