Skin boosters: can you inject more in a single session?

Dr. Park Hyungkwon2025.12.10

"Can't you inject more in one session?" "I was told to have three sessions. Is that just a sales tactic?" "Is one session useless if I don't come back?"

These are common reactions when I explain a course of skin booster treatment.

I think these are understandable questions. To be candid, injecting more at once does not increase the effect proportionally. The skin can take in only a certain amount at a time; the excess is simply absorbed and dissipates.

I explain the reason for dividing treatment every time. Giving only a session count without explanation naturally sounds like a sales pitch.

Why doesn't the skin improve all at once?

Skin repeatedly undergoes turnover, with new cells moving upward over a cycle of about 4 weeks. Whether it is PN in Rejuran or PDLLA in Juvelook, skin booster ingredients also need time to induce dermal regeneration and collagen production. The injections take tens of minutes, but the skin responds to that signal and builds tissue over weeks. That is why skin on the treatment day differs from skin 3–4 weeks later. Some say, "It has been a week, but I can't really tell." The answer is that it is still too early to judge. With skin boosters, the main part of treatment is not the moment injections end, but the weeks during which the skin produces a response. I therefore set the assessment point at 3–4 weeks rather than the treatment day. Earlier visible changes can be swelling or temporary hydration; using them to judge success or failure can create misunderstanding.

Can't a larger amount be injected at once?

Increasing the injected amount does not speed up this process. It is like watering a plant: soil can absorb only so much, and pouring a large amount at once merely causes overflow or damages the roots. Skin is similar. Exceeding the amount it can accommodate may only increase unwanted reactions such as surface unevenness or nodules. This limit is particularly clear where skin is thin. I believe skill lies not in injecting a lot, but in placing an amount the skin can respond to accurately into the required layer. The more urgently you want results, the more you should ask about precision rather than quantity.

How are session number and intervals decided?

This is why skin boosters are commonly administered in several sessions at 2–4-week intervals. The interval gives the skin time to respond, and the next visit allows that response to be assessed and treatment continued. When asked, "How many sessions do I need?", I explain that there is no fixed formula; it depends on the degree of skin damage and the goal. I believe the honest sequence is to examine the skin at the first consultation before recommending a suitable number. Even within the same program, amounts and areas can vary slightly between sessions. Adjusting the next session based on the previous response is the original purpose of a treatment course.

If you have an important event, we can also plan backward from its date. For a wedding or photo shoot with a fixed date, it is safer to begin sessions at least several weeks in advance, preferably a couple of months beforehand, so the skin has responded by then. For the reasons above, I do not recommend rushing to inject a large amount just before the event. When time matters, starting early is the better answer.

How we continue the course

I believe continuity is the most important element in a series of treatments. As the clinic's sole lead physician, I adjust the next session having personally checked how much was placed in which areas previously and how the skin responded. The initial plan is something of a hypothesis; from the second visit onward, there is evidence in the skin's actual response. I believe the clinician who conducted the consultation should observe that evidence directly and decide the next step to make the course more precise. That connection can be lost when the consulting and treating doctors differ. When considering clinics in Cheongdam, I therefore recommend checking who assesses and adjusts treatment at each visit rather than only how many sessions the program includes. LUNN Clinic is 1 minute from Exit 4 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station, making repeated visits relatively convenient, and all care takes place in individual rooms. Parking is free. Recognizing that these treatments require several visits, we adjust appointments together to fit your routine. Multilingual assistance is also available for patients traveling from abroad for their sessions.

Discussing the next appointment in a private consultation room

Skin boosters may cause redness, bruising, and swelling at injection sites, and rarely nodules. The speed and extent of change vary between individuals.

To get appropriate results from skin boosters, it is better to ask why a particular interval is recommended than simply how many visits are required. A clinic that explains the rationale for that interval can be a reasonable choice, even if it is not LUNN Clinic.
